Culture, language, skills… the benefits of language immersion

A very effective learning method

Immersive learning is one of the most effective methods if you wish to learn French outside of college or schools. The main interest of linguistic immersion consists of course in learning French language in direct contact with native French speakers. A language stay dedicated to learning French gives learners complete freedom while allowing them to familiarize themselves with the culture and way of life of the population. When it comes to learning French  (or any other language for that matter), an immersive stay   remains the most effective because it will allow you to learn “in real life” and to practice in public, which is an excellent means of acquiring a proper pronunciation.

Overcome your shyness

A daily practice of the French language in contact with French-speaking people quickly allows learners to overcome their shyness. Although language immersion may seem difficult at first, it is an excellent stimulant that will push you to overcome your fears in order to meet people, express your needs, introduce yourself and move around on a daily basis in the city you will be living in. A language stay in France will also give you a strong advantage if your goal is to pursue higher education in a French-speaking university, work in France or get a French language diploma.

Strengthen your concentration

Immersive learning is also a great way to improve your concentration and cognitive skills. During your linguistic stay in France, you will not only hear and speak French, but you will need to read and write it while familiarizing yourself with an unknown cultural environment. By soliciting your adaptability and forcing you to concentrate on the words, speeches of your interlocutors and all the written sentences you will encounter, immersion will offer you an excellent opportunity to focus on a daily basis. Eventually, you will be able to think and reason in French and this is when things will get interesting!

Discovering a new culture

As briefly mentioned previously, immersive learning encompasses not only the language but also a whole culture. If you decide to learn French by taking a language trip, you will certainly have the chance to approach French literature, culture and cinema. Another opportunity to develop your language skills by gradually discovering French civilization in its various components. Living with a host family or sharing an apartment with French speakers is thus an excellent way to immerse yourself in French society and learn about its habits and customs.
