TCF (Test de connaissance du français) Exam

Students at the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne have the possibility of carrying out an assessment of their mastery of French via the TCF on computer. The Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) Tout Public (all audiences) assesses the written and oral comprehension skills of non-French-speaking individuals seeking to demonstrate their aptitude in French. The TCF for all audiences involves three compulsory tests, allowing non-French speakers to assess their level of French according to the common European framework of reference for languages. Valid for two years, the TCF can be used in a professional, academic or personal context

The computer-based French Knowledge Test may be limited to compulsory tests or include optional written tests. The computerized TCF for all audiences, with writing tests, incorporates the three mandatory tests of the TCF TP while adding a writing test. The TCF on computer for all audiences can thus include an additional writing exam, lasting 60 minutes, which reinforces the candidate’s language skills.

The TCF on computer may also include an oral test. This complementary test of the TCF “all audiences” consist of an individual oral exercise during which the non-French-speaking candidate is assessed by an examiner for his or her ability to communicate orally in French.

International candidates and students can choose to take the TCF TP SO by including all of the tests mentioned above – compulsory tests and optional written/oral exams. The general public TCF on computer therefore assesses all the linguistic skills of candidates thanks to oral and written expression tests, in addition to the mandatory multiple choice questions. The complete computerized TCF TP (MCQ + ORAL EXPRESSION + WRITTEN EXPRESSION) is an exhaustive linguistic test which allows international students to know precisely their level of mastery of French.

The TCF IRN assesses the French proficiency of non-French-speaking individuals seeking to obtain a resident card or French nationality. The TCF “Residency Nationality Integration” represents a variant of the TCF intended for non-French-speaking individuals involved in administrative procedures, such as naturalization or obtaining a long-term resident card.
